Factory Porsche racer Sascha Maassen will join the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton on 3/4 June when he enters Britains fastest single marque racing series for his first experience of the high-speed Hampshire track.

Maassen, from Germany, is one of the most experienced Porsche racers in the world and is currently racing the Porsche RS Spyder in the American Le Mans Series, a highlight of which was his role in a one-two finish in the most recent race at Mid-Ohio, USA. “Right now, we are very happy with our results in America,” he says.

However, Sascha will now jump into the Type 997 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, entered by Porsche Cars GB in partnership with Vertu, the worlds first and only manufacturer of luxury handcrafted mobile phones, for rounds seven and eight of the Carrera Cup; and at a circuit he has never seen before.

“I know how special the 911 GT3 Cup car is to drive, but I’ve not driven it for over a year and I will need some time to get used to it again,” he says. “I have some new things to learn! I’ve never raced the latest model GT3 Cup car, and Thruxton is definitely a new challenge as I’ve never done a race there!”

Maassen’s opposition will include Richard Westbrook (Ipswich), who will return to the Carrera Cup for the weekend after setting the pace in the international Porsche Michelin Supercup. “I think Richard will be a good challenge,” says Maassen, who is visiting Europe during a break in the ALMS season. His first sight of the Thruxton circuit will be during the official Carrera Cup test sessions on Friday (2 June).
